Light Effects in Photoshop

In this tutorial, we'll learn how to create light effects in Photoshop.

1) Opens a new document with the 800 × 600 px, and fills the background with black.
2) Open an image that you want to add a light effect. I used this image of DaSkinnyBlackMan.
3) Using the Pen Tool, select the person in the image. When done, press Ctrl + Enter to make the selection. From the tool palette, choose the Rectangular Marquee Tool, right click on the image and select Layer via Copy. Use the Move Tool to move the person's layer in this image to the open document at the beginning.

4) Selects the Gradient Tool and uses the settings in the following image to fill the Background layer.

5) Create a new layer (Ctrl + Shfit + N), then press Ctrl + G to create a new folder and change its blending mode in Color Dodge.

6) To create a spark effect we will use the brush engine. So we can customize any brush. Select the Brush Tool , click on the icon tiled below, and then put the settings in the image. Then select the colorwhite , and uses a brush you just created to achieve an effect similar to the image below.

7) Use this tutorial to create abstract lines similar to those in the image below. These lines must be in the Light Effects folderYou can create a separate folder, but do not forget to change its blending mode inColor Dodge .

8) Create a new layer (out of the folder), then using the Lasso Tool with the settings below, make a selection as in the next image. Press D to reset the colors, then go to Filter> Render> Clouds. Change how this layer joins in Soft Light.

9) Create a new layer, press Ctrl + G to create a folder, and then change the blending mode of this folder in Color Dodge. Select the Brush Tool, choose a brush size 1px, and performs horizontal and vertical lines. Then go to Filter> Blur> Radial Blur and set the settings in the image below. Press Ctrl + J to make multiple copies of this layer, then use the Move Tool to move the layers into different parts of the image.

Now your layer palette should be similar to the one below.

10) Select the layer that contains the person (Layer 1 in the above image). Press Ctrl + J to make a copy of this layer, then copy the layer to the original layer. Click Ctrl + Click on the image of the copy layer, go to Select> Modify> Contract and set the value to 2 px. Press Ctrl + Shift + I to reverse the selection, then go to Filter> Blur> Radial Blur and use the settings in the image below. Change the linkage of this layer to the Linear Dodge and put an opacity of 60%.
